Shi Shi Beach
Shi Shi Beach
Shi Shi beach is located on the northwestern most tip of washington, just south of Neah Bay and the Makah indian reservation. This was perhaps the most interesting beach backpack trip I’ll ever go on due to the harsh weather. I don’t think I will ever have another opportunity to tromp through the snow on my way to the beach in Washington state.
Despite harsh conditions we still passed 6 day hikers over our three day excursion. In addition to people we spotted many birds including several bald eagles. We spend our middle day observing the high winter tides and trying to hike to a lake that seems to only exist on the map but not in reality. Though we never found the lake, we did have the opportunity to pass though some of the largest cedar trees I’ve ever seen.
